Christmas in the Village

Christmas in the Village is this weekend - Dec. 4-6!  Step back in time for an old fashioned Christmas!   Carolers, luminaries and all the nostalgic sights and sounds of the holidays!  Shops open 10am-9pm Friday and Saturday and noon - 5pm on Sunday!  Tree lighting ceremony Friday at 6pm.  Come share Waynesville's gift to the community!

Recipes for our Friends - Easy Turkey Divan

Easy Turkey Divan

6 slices cooked turkey or 2 c. cut-up turkey;  2 pkg (10 oz each) frozen broccoli spears;  6 slices process American or Cheddar cheese (about 6 oz); 1 can (13 1/2 oz) evaporated milk;  1 can (10 1/2 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup;   1 can (3 1/2 oz) French fried onion rings.

Heat oven to 350 degrees.  Arrange turkey in ungreased baking dish, 11 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches.  Top with hot broccoli,  cover with cheese.  Stir together milk and soup;  pour over cheese.  Bake uncovered 25 minutes.  Sprinkle with onion rings and bake 5 minutes longer.  4 to 6 servings

Recipes for our Friends - Brown Sugar Icing

Brown Sugar Icing
 
1 C. Brown sugar (packed)
1 Stick Butter
Heat & stir.  Boil 2 minutes stirring constantly
Add 1/4 C. Evaporated Milk and bring back to boil while stirring constantly
Put in fridge till lukewarm.
Add 1 T. Vanilla and then add 2 1/2- 3 C. Powdered sugar - beating with mixer until right consistency to spread.
Delicious on chocolate cake - recipe given to me by Polly Garner

Recipe for our Friends - Grandma's Pumpkin Pie

Grandma's Pumpkin Pie
 
2 C. Pumpkin
1 1/2 C. Sugar
3 1/2 C. Milk
6 T. Cornstarch
Nutmeg, Cinnamon & Cloves to taste
 
Stir constantly and slowly in a regular pan or double boiler until very thick.  Pour into already baked pie shells  (makes 2 or 3 pies - depending on how deep you make the filling)
